Where this comes from. The USGS earthquake feed, fetched by your browser directly, about 150 KB for a day of events worldwide. No key, no server of mine in between, nothing stored. USGS sees the request, the same way they would if you opened their site yourself.
What the numbers mean. Magnitude is logarithmic: each whole step is roughly 32 times the energy. Distances are great-circle from downtown Las Vegas to the epicentre, which is a point on the surface above where the rupture started, not where the shaking was worst. Depth is not drawn at all.
What it is not. This is a record of what already happened. Nothing here forecasts anything: earthquake prediction, in the sense people usually mean, does not exist.
